Millennial Musings

The emotional landscape is aquamarine — desperation submerged in hopelessness, in apathy, our beating hearts frail with the longing of our lost love of life. We are millennials, the bohemian underground rising; we carry the weight of our withering world, our suffering sentiments and crumbling cathedrals. Yet this stirring is a testament to the dawning which is upon us, growing slowly in culmination of a waking of the soul, awareness imminent. I hope.

In contrast to my previous post, here the flip-side of the coin that is my generation: "Sing, sing, sing, sing / Sing it out as hard as you can / Make 'em hear ya from LA to Japan / Don't let 'em bring you down."
We can get wrapped up in a kind of sick romance with the pain sometimes (there is also beauty in tragedy, after all), but I see many of us simply refusing to be miserable. Sure, this can lead to drowning out (and not facing) that pain in overindulgence and momentary pleasure or distraction, but there are also those of us who have looked it square in the eyes and said, "You have no power left here."; we acknowledge it, give it a knowing nod, and move on. We make this decision daily, every hour, every moment, because — despite our heavy hearts and the truth they carry — babies still smile, dogs will love you senselessly, the crisp autumn air will caress your face when the winds begin to change, and life continues to be beautiful (in so many more ways than one). So, sing! And be sure to invite your friends ... Because true joy and love are tenfold if you choose to share them — if anyone wants to go rollerskating, I'll be around!
