Ok, so, I know Big Hero 6 came out in 2014 and pretty much everyone has already seen it, but bear with me here: this movie is SO. WORTH IT. I kept hearing good things about it, but honestly, let's face it ... we all kept hearing rave reviews about movies like Frozen and that was, albeit cute and worthy of praise in certain respects, seriously overrated in general (just my opinion ... I know a lot of people liked it and I don't mean to crush anyone's joy, I just think from a critical perspective it didn't earn the level of acclaim it received). Perhaps I enjoyed it that much more because my expectations were lowered, but I honestly think it would have won me over either way, because the overall quality of the whole production just can't help but shine through; this film will have you laughing, crying, giggling, and 100% nerding from start to finish! From a narrative perspective, the pacing is perfect — in terms of the story itself, character development, the script ... simply everything is so immaculately timed and well thought-out that a single frame has the power to reduce you to a puddle of tears (or perhaps that's only if you're feeling premenstrual ... I'll have to watch it the next time my uterus isn't swelling up like an inflatable bouncer and let you know). The level of emotional content, development, and exchange was one I personally haven't cinematically experienced since Wall-E. Truly commendable. A beautiful and critical story that cuts right to the core of our humanity. Please just go watch it. That is all.
